Selecting the correct material for your valve diaphragm seal, requires an understanding of available materials. Diaphragms are one of the most limiting factors of a valve. Fabric reinforcement is usually required when pressure differentials exceeded 5 psi across the diaphragm. Some applications might require elastomeric coatings on both sides of the fabric. Fabric and elastomer are two of the main materials used in molding or fabricating the diaphragm seals.

The petrol, oil and solvent resistant nitrile is given additional resistance to creep, flexing and stretching through the inclusion of the fabric,resulting in a sheeting that is popular in a wide range of diaphragm sealing applications. This may include oil, water, steam and gas sealing in valves, pumps and gas control equipment.
