The purpose of the valve stem seal is, to prevent the oil from the cylinder head; entering the combustion chamber.
So, the valve stem seal, plays a critical role in, controlling valve lubrication, as well as oil consumption.

 

Valve stem seals provide a defined metering rate of oil to the valve stem interface of internal combustion engines to lubricate the valve guide and minimize engine emissions. They are available for diesel and gasoline engines with and without boosting.

NBR is the most commonly used seal material. It has good heat resistance properties, good resistance to oils, salt solutions, hydraulic oils, and petrol, diesel and other gasoline products. Operation temperatures are recommended from -40deg Cato 120deg C. It also functions well under the dry environment, but only for intermittent periods.
