Quad Rings (X-RINGS) Quad rings are also known as X-rings, or occasionally '4 - (dash)'. They can be used in a wide variety of static and dynamic sealing applications.  The four-lobed design provides twice the sealing surface in comparison to a standard O-Ring. The double-seal action requires less compression to maintain an effective seal. This reduced compression results in less friction, longer seal life and lower risk of twisting.  X rings have an advantage over standard O-rings as the parting lines are between the lobes, away from the sealing surface. This eliminates the problems of leakage that often results from a parting line's irregular surface as found on an O-Ring. In these cases, X -rings provide a better, more uniform seal.  X rings are designed to outperform a standard O-Ring in rotary seal applications. The four-lobed configuration creates a more stable seal avoiding spiral twisting. This allows for a narrower groove width than a standard O-Ring groove. However, it can also be used in a standard O-Ring groove.  X-Rings have the same dimensions as the AS568A O-Ring sizes, also referred to as standard size O-Rings and are available in a variety of materials.

Differences Between Quad Rings & O-Rings There are several main differentiators that separate standard O-Rings from X-Ring's four-lobed design. Standard O-Rings are built with a basic layout that provides simple leak protection, while Quad Rings have numerous advanced design qualities that allow them to provide enhanced protection. Quad Ring Seal's offer a unique spiral twist design coupled with an inner lobe sealing surface that allows for prolonged seal life and improved operational quality.

Buna (or Nitrile) material is great for all but the most extreme applications. It works from -40-degrees F to 250-degrees F, and has good wear resistance. It works with oils.

FKM (or Fluorocarbon) works for almost every application. It can withstand temperatures from -25-degrees F up to 400-degrees F.
